Makeup that's tested on animals

Makeup that’s tested on animals includes many makeup brands that are not cruelty-free. The majority of the brands that are non-cruelty-free remain so because they have chosen to market and sell in nations that still require animal testing. An example is China which still requires brands to pay for animal tests for all special use products that are not produced in China.

To be considered as makeup brands tested on animals, the companies are involved in one or more of the following activities:

  • Test their products on animals during development.
  • Source ingredients from companies that test on animals.
  • Test their finished products on animals.
  • Pay third-parties to conduct animal tests for the brand.
  • Market and sell in countries that still conduct animal testing. eg. Mainland China
  • Fund any form of animal testing.

It is important to note that some brands such as Fenty Beauty and Dove don’t test on animals but are sold in China. The brands have found ways of exploiting loopholes in the system which has allowed them to reach the market without paying or submitting their products for animal testing.
