Benefits of face steaming

The benefits of face steaming are many and far outweigh any negatives especially when done correctly. Face steaming is a technique that’s been around for years and it’s really something everyone can do.

It’s super easy to do and you can do it in the comfort of your home. I should also note that face steaming is recommended for all skin types. Whether you have oily skin, combination skin, or dry skin, steaming is for you.

Steaming with Face Steamer

You can use a facial steamer but, you definitely don’t have to own one. With a steamer, you put water into the little compartment and pop it into its position.

Please turn it on and it produces steam at the top. Gently put your face in the steam and let the steam go all over your face. Steam the face for like five minutes up to ten depending on how much steam you are working with.

DIY Face Steaming with a Bowl

If you don’t have a face steamer machine, you can use a DIY technique, such as a bowl and a towel. Fill up a bowl or sink with boiling kettle water.

Then put a towel over your head and lean over the bowl or sink and cover it. Now your entire face is covered in steam. Make sure to cover the bowl or sink so that the steam doesn’t escape too fast.

Benefits of Face Steaming

Loosens Blackheads and Whiteheads

Steaming your face regularly will help loosen any whiteheads and blackheads that may be present on your skin. It really helps to soften your skin and loosen your pores.

Removing blackheads and whiteheads without softening the skin can really be irritating. Steaming your face helps whatever blackhead removal tool you’re using. It makes the skin a lot softer and helps push out the blackheads.

Push Out Dirt

If steaming is going to push out blackheads it’s also going to push out dirt and other crap from your skin.

Sweat is basically the best thing to bring all the rubbish to the surface, which is why it gets spotty. Sweating gets that dirt out that’s really wedged inside your pores.

Steam brings out all the sweat and with it all the dirt. The result is a super good cleanse that leaves the skin feeling clean and fresh.

Helps Other Products Work Well

After you’ve cleansed, use all your other products and steam actually helps all these other products to work better. It helps them communicate with your skin better. For example, serums essences, and even face masks.

You can even combine steaming with a face mask application. Put the mask on and then steam right over it. Steaming enhances the benefits of the mask. If you like DIY face masks check this post here.

Hydrates the Skin

If you have dry skin, steamers are actually very good for hydration. As mentioned above steamers can increase the permeability of your skin meaning it will enhance the uptake of products. It will allow them to work better.

For example, when you’re using hydrating products like moisturizers and serums your skin is going to absorb them a lot more. This is great for dry skin because it’s going to help your skin

retain that moisture. It’s also going to help get rid of all those dead dry skin cells that make your skin look dry.

It’s going to make your skin look a lot plumper and bouncier and generally more hydrated. It’s going to increase your skin’s suppleness. Read more on the difference between dry and dehydrated skin.

Antiaging Benefits

Anti-aging is also one of the benefits of face steaming. It gets rid of dead skin cells that cover the nice new plump skin cells that are growing underneath.

The dead skin cells create a protective barrier from the outside. They also stop moisture from the skin from escaping and leaving the skin dry.

Naturally, when you’re younger the cell turnover is a lot quicker than when you’re getting older when the cell turnover takes a bit more time.

That’s why as people accumulate dead skin cells, they can start to look a little bit old. The skin looks tired, dead, and dull.

Steaming helps loosen these dead skin cells gradually. The gradual process ensures that the skin still has a layer of dead cells so that the protection is still there but it’s not too thick that the skin looks dull.

That’s why after generally good steam the skin looks fresher, younger, glowing, and plumper.

How Often To Face Steam?

About once or twice a week is sufficient. As we know too much of anything can be detrimental. If you have a steamer it’s a lot easier because you can get going faster.

The steamer also gives you more control. It is also more comfortable to use especially for people who struggle with covering their entire face under a towel and breathing in steam.

When Should You Steam Your Face?

Face steaming is recommended in the evening, not in the morning. You can do it before going out in the evening but the best time is before bedtime. Doing it at bedtime allows the products to get a chance to work on your skin.
